New Medicine Service (NMS)
The service provides support for people with long-term conditions newly prescribed a medicine to help improve medicines adherence; it is focused on specific patient groups and conditions.
The conditions eligible for the service are:
- acute coronary syndromes
- asthma and COPD
- atrial fibrillation
- coronary heart disease
- diabetes (Type 2)
- epilepsy
- heart failure
- hypertension
- hypercholesterolaemia
- glaucoma
- gout
- long term risks of venous thromboembolism/embolism
- osteoporosis
- Parkinson’s disease
- stroke / transient ischemic attack
- urinary incontinence/retention
Pharmacists must check they have the necessary knowledge and skills before they are able to provide the New Medicine Service (NMS). They are required to complete and sign the NMS self-assessment form, available on CPE via the link below, and the completed form should be retained by the pharmacy contractor.
