Pharmacy Contraception Service
The Pharmacy Contraception Service (PCS), which is commissioned by NHS England as an Advanced service.
It allows the initiation and on-going supply of oral contraception (OC) from community pharmacies.
The supplies will be authorised via a Patient Group Direction (PGD), with appropriate checks, such as the measurement of the patient’s blood pressure and body mass index, being undertaken, where necessary.
A revised service is expected this year with the final versions of the service specification and PGDs being published on the NHS England website.
