Pharmacy Contraception Service
The Pharmacy Contraception Service (PCS), which is commissioned by NHS England as an Advanced service.
It allows the initiation, on-going supply of oral contraception (OC) and emergency contraception provision from community pharmacies.
The supplies will be authorised via a Patient Group Direction (PGD), with appropriate checks, such as the measurement of the patient’s blood pressure and body mass index, being undertaken, where necessary.
Independent Prescribing will be introduced into the CPCF as an extension of the Pharmacy Contraception Service (PCS) later in 2026.
